Go it Alone with an XLMOTO Motorcycle Loading Ramp

Head for a track day, trailer a new bike or retrieve a broken down motorbike and a motorcycle ramp from XLMOTO will make the job easier and safer.

What is a loading ramp?

A motorcycle loading ramp is a ladder or plank-shaped component made from aluminium or steel. With one end touching the ground, the other rests on the vehicle's rear. This action creates an angled ramp that allows you to push a motorcycle into a van or onto a truck bed. These motorcycle loading ramps are also available with twin rails for loading sidecar outfits, ATVs or quad bikes.

Why do you need a motorcycle loading ramp?

Lifting a motorbike into a van or onto a pickup truck takes at least two people. Meanwhile, performing the task using a loading ramp is safer and takes only one person.

Types of motorcycle loading ramps

Single: A single beam is the most popular style of motorcycle loading ramp. Fabricated from either aluminium or steel and in a ladder or solid floor configuration. Ladder ramps have closely gapped ladder-like rungs. These increase grip for the wheels and help prevent rollback. The rungs also keep the ramp's weight to a minimum. Also, ladder motorcycle ramps are easy to carry and store due to a hinge in the middle.

Solid floor ramp: An aluminium, solid-floor ramp uses the same type of folding design as the ladder ramp. It offers a flat surface to push the bike and has a lightly textured finish to minimise slippage. The flat bed of the ramp provides a smoother rolling surface.

Extendable ramps: As with all the loading ramps in the XLMOTO lineup, the extendable ramp is aluminium to keep weight to a minimum. However, unlike folding ramps, extendable versions have two sections. These slide over one another to extend to full length.

Double ramps: If you own a sidecar outfit, quad bike or ATV, then a double ramp is a great choice. This loading ramp has dual parallel rails which fasten together with cross members to provide more stability. These aluminium ramps fold in the middle for easy storage. You can use the dual rails individually if you want to load a solo motorcycle.

Accessories

Wheel chocks: With your motorcycle loaded, the next task is to prevent it from moving around. A wheel chock fastened to the floor of your van or truck allows you to push the front wheel into the chock where it holds the bike safely and securely.

Tie-down straps: Tie-down straps are super-tough polypropylene. They are often strong enough to take an entire motorcycle's weight. So when you secure your motorcycle front and back using a tie-down strap, it's not going anywhere.

Fork block: These incredible plastic devices may not spring to mind for transporting a motorcycle. Yet, for dirt bikes, they're essential. With the extra range of travel in the forks, it's easy to over-compress the front suspension when using tie-down straps. A fork block fits between the top of the front wheel and underneath the mudguard. It prevents damage to the seals from over-compression.

Tow ball covers: If your car, van, or pickup truck has a tow bar, chances are, your leg has come into contact with the tow ball at one time or another. Helmet-shaped tow bar covers by XLMOTO prevent corrosion of the tow ball and protect your legs. When transporting your motorbike in a van or pickup truck, a motorcycle loading ramp from XLMOTO will make the task a solo operation.
